Attendance: All students are expected to attend school regularly and to be on time for classes in order to obtain maximum benefit from the instructional program. There is a direct relationship between poor attendance and class failure. Students who have good attendance generally achieve higher grades and enjoy school more.
The following reasons are recognized as being valid for absence from school:
- Personal illness
- llness in the family
- Death of a relative
- Observance of a religious holiday
- Emergency circumstances which, in the judgment of the administration, constitute good and sufficient cause for absence from school.
All other absences will be considered unexcused. '`Needed at home" or "personal reasons" are not excused.
Excessive absenteeism will not be tolerated and may result in the student and the parent(s) being cited to court. After six days in the first trimester or 10 accumulative days of absence, the school will require a statement from a physician.
Statements from a physician for all visits during school hours are a guarantee of an excused absence. Other circumstances causing absence may be discussed with an administrator. The final decision on excusing absence from school rests with the school administrator.
Reporting Absences: Please remember to call the school attendance line before 10:00 AM when your child is gong to be absent. The attendance number is 943-6404. Leave a message stating your child's name, homeroom teacher's name, your name, and the reason for the absence.
Tardy : It is in the best interest of a child's education to be in school and on time everyday. It also teaches responsibility. Being tardy causes classroom disruptions. We understand that occasionally children may be late. Please make sure your child goes to the office for a tardy slip before proceeding to the classroom.
DO NOT accompany your child to the classroom as this causes further disruptions. We appreciate your help and cooperation in getting your child/children to school on time each day.
